Three advantages of laminate flooring

Three advantages of laminate flooring

If you want something affordable with the look and feel of genuine hardwood, laminate flooring may be for you. Here, we break down the advantages.

High style on a budget

I was once at a holiday celebration. The homeowner had gorgeous medium-toned wood floors!

There were knots, raised grains, and swirls. A slight color variation between planks indicated a hand-scraped texture.

The homeowner finally admitted that the floors were laminate, not genuine wood.

When you shop, you'll see that laminate flooring comes in many styles and colors, including trending gray, greige, whitewashed, and high variation. Textures include wire-brushed, hand-scraped, distressed, and embossed-in-register (EIR).

Durability

Laminate floors have a top ultra-strong coating. The best laminate flooring is scratch, dent, and fade-resistant.

They stand up to the heaviest foot traffic and large families with kids and pets. The floors also have UV protection, so they don't fade or discolor easily.

While laminate floors come in a range of thicknesses, don't skimp. Also, be sure you choose the right one for your project.

AC Rating determines impact resistance

The AC (Abrasion Criteria) Rating is a one-to-five/six system determining strength.

As the numbers go up, so does the impact resistance. The most common rating for residential use is AC-3 or AC-4.

A new version: waterproof laminate flooring

Original laminate flooring has wood byproducts in its composition. Most of us know about the water/wood challenges.

A new version features a non-wood construction that prevents soaking, staining, peeling, and rippling.

Both original and waterproof versions are on the market. Be sure to specify which one you want.
